Issue
of New Circulation Coins
Barbados’
new circulation coins will be issued beginning August 13, 2007.
The Central Bank of Barbados first announced the change in March
of this year.
The
coins carry a steel core and are almost identical in appearance
to those currently in circulation.
They were produced using newer, more sophisticated
technology that makes them resistant to corrosion due to
humidity, sweat and tropical conditions.
The
one cent, 10 cent, 25 cent and one dollar coin will be issued
first, with the five cent being introduced in the coming months.
Initially,
both types of coins will be in circulation simultaneously,
however the older coins, which are marked ”2006” or earlier,
will be gradually removed from circulation.
