3, 2007Central Bank of Barbados Celebrates 35 Years
The Central Bank of Barbados announced today that it will commemorate its 35th Anniversary with a series of activities from May 6 – 19, 2007.
The celebrations will start officially with a Church Service on Sunday, May 6 at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels at 9:00 a.m.
Staff will showcase their creative talents at the visual arts exhibition scheduled to open officially on Monday, May 7 at the Grande Salle at 10:00 a.m.
On Thursday, May 10, the Bank will host a lecture/panel discussion on the topic “Central Banking in a Globalised Economic Context: Promoting Both National and Regional Economic Gains.” Governor Dr. Marion Williams observed that the theme of the discussions reflects the increasing integration and interdependence of the regional and global economies. This has important implications for central banks in the conduct of monetary policy and in promoting stability and economic growth. Contributors will share their views on integration in other geographical groupings. Speakers include: Dr. Trevor Farrell of the University of the West Indies, Dr. Gregor Heinrich, Chief Representative, Bank of International Settlements, Officer for the Americas and Dr. José Alfredo Blanco Valdés, Executive Secretary, Central American Monetary Council. Governor Dr. Marion Williams will deliver the Keynote Address.
The following week, Dr. Sean Jackson, well-known Barbadian, organist and Dr. Stephen Clapp, the Dean of The Juilliard School, will entertain Barbadians with classical music at the Frank Collymore Hall, on Friday, May 18 at 8:00 p.m. Titled Scarlatti to Spencer – Treasures from the Violin & Piano Repertoires” the concert will feature popular pieces from the violin and piano literature as well as the world’s best of Christopher Spencer's two Sea Scapes. This is the first time in fifteen years that Dr. Jackson will be appearing on the piano, and the performance promises to be a veritable treat for lovers of classical music.
The activities will climax with a staff concert on Saturday, May 19 at the Frank Collymore Hall at 7:00 p.m.
The Bank extends an invitation to all Barbadians to participate in its anniversary activities.
