With the 2012 balance of payments (BOP) survey, the Central Bank of Barbados commenced the compilation of its balance of payments (BOP) statistics under the guidelines of the sixth edition of the International Monetary Fund’s Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6)1. The move from the fifth edition of the Balance of Payments Manual (BPM5) to BPM6 allowed for better analysis of Barbados' international accounts. However, the coverage, classification and presentation of Barbados’ BOP statistics have undergone numerous changes compared prior years.
As a result, the Balance of Payments (BOP) 2013 Working Tables reflect information on 2011 and 2012. Data related to the period 2010 and prior are not based on BPM 6 and are therefore not always directly comparable.
Following is list of some of the main changes that occurred in the compilation of the current, capital and financial accounts as a result of the switch from BPM5 to BPM6 as well as other presentation-of-statistics requirements.
Please be guided accordingly.
