Career Opportunity: Deputy Director, Communications and Outreach

The Central Bank of Barbados is seeking to fill a post of Deputy Director, Communications and Outreach in its Communications, Information and Outreach Department.

Job Summary

To drive the Bank’s communication and outreach strategies, ensuring effective dissemination of information and enhancement of the Bank’s public engagement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include:

Communication Strategy Implementation

  • Assisting in developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to promote the Bank's mission, policies, and initiatives
  • Coordinating the production of communication materials, including digital content, publications, and press releases

Media and Public Relations

  • Managing day-to-day media relations and serve as a point of contact for media inquiries.
  • Preparing press briefings, media kits, and other materials as needed
  • Monitoring media coverage and reporting on public perception and feedback

Outreach Programme Management

  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing outreach programmes aimed at enhancing public understanding of the Bank’s role and financial literacy
  • Coordinating events, seminars, and workshops for various audiences, including the public, educational institutions, and industry professionals

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, financial institutions, and community organisations
  • Representing the Bank at public events, conferences, and meetings

Team Leadership

  • Supervising and mentoring staff within the Communications and Outreach Division
  • Fostering a collaborative and productive work environment

Reporting and Analysis

  • Providing regular reports on the effectiveness of communication and outreach initiatives
  • Analysing communication outcomes and recommending improvements

Operational Management

Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department to ensure efficiency, timeliness of deliverables and adherence to budget allocations

Contributing to the Executive Management team’s efforts by accomplishing any other related duties as assigned

Relationships

Maintain effective relationships with the Senior Management, departmental heads, staff, and external stakeholders.

Education/Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field with at least five (5) years of relevant experience, preferably in a financial institution or central banking environment

or

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field with at least seven (7) years of relevant experience, preferably in a financial institution or central banking environment

Competencies

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful communication and outreach strategies.
  • Proven leadership skills, particularly skills at influencing, leading and supporting organisational change
  • Proficient in digital communication tools and social media platforms
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Good stakeholder management skills, excellent team player, and strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Highly effective and proactive in both oral and written communications
  • Critical thinker with problem solving skills and a results-driven orientation
