Career Opportunity: Senior Accounting Officer II

The Central Bank of Barbados is seeking to fill a vacant post of Senior Accounting Officer II.

Job Summary

To assist the Financial Controller in the delivery of financial outcomes and the compliance with financial rules, organisational policies and procedures and legislative requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the integrity of accounting data by performing essential accounting preparation, through input, control, analysis and reporting of financial accounting information
  • Developing and providing accurate budget projections of income and expenditure and assisting in the preparation of the annual budgetting and forecasting within funding limits and contractual obligations
  • Participating in the development and establishment of accounting policies, procedures and operational strategies to implement improved system efficiencies and business practices
  • Monitoring and verifying all financial transactions to ensure compliance with financial rules, organisational policies and procedures and legislative requirements
  • Supervising operations related to revaluations of foreign securities and updating of accounting systems and reconciling monthly statements from fund managers
  • Maintaining fixed asset register including coding of purchases, computation of depreciation and entering disposals of fixed assets
  • Providing training to end users and technical support staff concerning the use of Accounting Systems to ensure the accurate processing of financial data and records
  • Assisting in the performance management and development of direct reports and providing coaching and mentorship
  • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing any related tasks assigned

Education/Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Banking and a professional qualification in Accounting recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados
  • Plus five (5) years’ post designation experience in an accounting environment
  • Formal training in Supervisory Management
  • Proficiency in wordprocessing, accounting software, and spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Previous experience in an external audit environment would be an asset
