Central Bank of Barbados Conducting Payments Survey

The Central Bank of Barbados is teaming up with other regional central banks for a survey on how individuals in the Caribbean make payments. The link to the survey, which can be found on the Bank’s website, is currently open and will run until Friday, October 25, 2019.

“With more payment options becoming available to the public, the Bank is seeking to better understand the public’s attitudes and preferences about the methods of payment used to purchase goods and services,” explained Darrin Downes, Deputy Director of Research and Economic Analysis, at the Central Bank of Barbados. “The survey results will help us, and our fellow central banks across the Caribbean, to shape policy going forward.”

The survey assesses how respondents pay for purchases and their opinions on a range of payment methods, including cash, cheques, debit and credit cards, and e-wallets. The information received is being collected by the Caribbean Economic Research Team (CERT), a policy research institution established by CARICOM central banks, and all responses will be kept strictly confidential.

“We would like to ensure that the information collected is truly representative of the Barbadian society, so we encourage everyone to visit the Bank’s website and complete the survey,” said Downes.
