About the Seminar
Since 1981, the Central Bank of Barbados’ Annual Review Seminar has provided a forum for stimulating policy-related discussions among economists, academics, and other policymakers from within the economic and financial disciplines, as well as practitioners from other areas of expertise.
This year, it is our pleasure to invite you to our 43rd Annual Review Seminar, which will be held in Bridgetown, Barbados from July 25 to 28, 2023.
At this juncture of the 21st century, the world continues to grapple with the most severe downturn since the Great Depression of 1929. In addition to the macroeconomic instability due to the COVID-19 pandemic, economies across the globe have been jolted by the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The reopening of economies and the resumption of travel has set the stage for recovery within the region. However, the pace of economic growth and its susceptibility to future downside risks remains a significant factor in any comprehensive recovery plan.
This year’s Annual Review Seminar, “2023 The Road to Recovery: Removing Roadblocks and Building Bridges”, supports the need for creative and astute policy in charting a sustainable path towards recovery.
A non-exhaustive list of relevant topics for this year’s seminar include:
- Sustainable Growth and Development
- Climate Change and the Blue and Green Economies
- Trade and External Sector Developments
- Mitigating External Vulnerabilities
- Macroeconomic Perspectives on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence
- Fiscal Developments and Debt Dynamics
- Financial Sector Innovation
