"This study tests the validity of the ""so-called"" Ricardian equivalence proposition within the context of small open economies in an attempt to fill a gap in the literature. Using data from two small open economies in the Caribbean, the paper evaluates the proposition as a description of consumer behaviour. In addition, it shows the usefulness of the life-cycle model of consumption in explaining economic processes in the countries under study.
