The paper examines the changes in exchange rate strategies in the region, and assesses the case for overvaluation of regional currencies which is seen as a result of the existing exchange rate practices. The paper also discusses the case for a basket type arrangement as possible solution to the perceived problems of exchange rates arrangements in the region. It gives a note on methods of calculating effective exchange rates.
