Following the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) May 9 - 19 visit, team leader Judith Gold issued an end-of-mission statement. The statement notes that "the economy appears to have turned a corner", citing growth in real GDP, an increase in tourist arrivals and a fall in unemployment. It also states, however, that Barbados still faces serious challenges, noting that recent fiscal reforms have yielded less than expected and that the island must reduce its debt.
