Since 1981, the Central Bank of Barbados’ Annual Review Seminar has provided a forum for stimulating policy-related discussions among economists, academics, and other policymakers from within the economic and financial disciplines, as well as practitioners from other areas of expertise.
This year, it is our pleasure to invite you to our 41st Annual Review Seminar, which will be held online from July 27 to 30, 2021.
As the world continues to grapple with the fallout of COVID-19, efforts to respond effectively to social and economic stresses have placed inordinate pressure on governments and policymakers. In particular, the impact has been especially stark for Caribbean economies, reflecting ever present vulnerabilities to external shocks, due to their small size, limited international trade and financial relationships. Life with COVID has necessitated and proliferated the need for innovation, with digital platforms acting as surrogates for face-to-face interaction, however the significance of social interactions to the engine of economic activity has resulted in a protracted recovery. As a result, great emphasis has been placed on facilitating the transition to post-pandemic economies, with inclusive and more resilient growth being at the forefront of policy discussions against the backdrop of uncertain fiscal and debt dynamics.
This year’s theme, “Pursuing Resilience in the Shadow of COVID: Overcoming the Pandemic’s Economic Fallout”, seeks to explore these issues from a Caribbean perspective, promoting research aimed at fostering transformative growth.
This year’s seminar will address a wide range of topics:
