Career Opportunity: Deputy Director, Library and Information Services

The Central Bank of Barbados is seeking to fill a post of Deputy Director, Library and Information Services in its Communications, Information and Outreach Department.

Job Summary

To provide leadership and managerial support and oversee the management and preservation of the Bank’s collection of documents, publications, and archival materials.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include:

Library and Archives Management

  • Leading the operation and maintenance of the Bank's library and archives, ensuring effective organisation, cataloguing, and preservation of materials
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures for the acquisition, processing, and preservation of library and archival resources

Digital Transformation

  • Spearheading initiatives to digitise library and archival materials, enhancing accessibility and long-term preservation
  • Implementing and managing digital library systems, archival software and records management system

Research and Reference Services

  • Providing expert research and reference services to support the Bank’s staff and external researchers
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive database of resources and materials

Outreach and Education

  • Organising exhibitions, seminars, and workshops to promote the use of the Bank’s library and archival resources
  • Collaborating with academic institutions and other organisations to facilitate research and education

Team Leadership and Development

  • Supervising and mentoring staff within the Library and Archives Management division
  • Encouraging professional development and continuous learning among team members

Compliance and Best Practices

  • Ensuring compliance with international standards and best practices in library and archival management
  • Keeping abreast and updated on trends and advancements in the field

Contributing to the Executive Management team’s efforts by accomplishing any other related duties as assigned

Relationships

Maintain effective relationships with the Senior Management, departmental heads, staff, and external stakeholders.

Education/Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Archival Studies, or a related field, and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, with a focus on library and archival management, preferably in a central banking or financial institution

or

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Archival Studies, or a related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience, with a focus on library and archival management, preferably in a central banking or financial institution.

  • Demonstrated experience in digital transformation projects within a library or archives setting
  • Proficiency in library and archival management software and digital technologies
  • Proven leadership skills, particularly skills at influencing, leading, and supporting organisational change
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Good stakeholder management skills, excellent team player, and strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Highly effective and proactive in both oral and written communications
  • Critical thinker, with problem solving skills and a results-driven orientation
