The 22nd Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Awards Takes Place on January 11

Barbados’ writers will be feted at the 22nd Frank Collymore Literary Endowment (FCLE) Awards, which takes place on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at the Frank Collymore Hall.

During that ceremony, which celebrates the best of Barbadian literature, the winners of last year’s competition will be announced, with the three top finishers receiving cash prizes.

“We are pleased to be able to shine the spotlight on Barbados’ many talented authors, poets, and playwrights,” said Sherri Bishop, Senior Communications Officer at the Central Bank of Barbados, which has sponsored the FCLE since its inception. “We consider this programme a key part of our outreach because we understand that having a strong literary tradition will unquestionably make for an even richer Barbadian culture.”

Bishop also shared some of what attendees can expect at the awards. “Our featured speaker will be Vincentian-born H. Nigel Thomas, and our finalists will showcase their talent by performing excerpts from their work. We encourage everyone to come out to hear Dr. Thomas and to show their support for this new generation of Barbadian writers.”

The FCLE was started in 1998 with the goal of developing the literary arts in Barbados. In addition to the annual competition, it offers technical clinics for writers as well as workshops for secondary school students.
