AffinityPlus Credit Union Members Can Now Use the BiMPay Wallet

Members of AffinityPlus Credit Union Ltd. can now link their accounts to the BiMPay Wallet, the Central Bank of Barbados has announced. With AffinityPlus, all nine institutions participating in BiMPay, six commercial banks and three credit unions, now offer the Wallet to their customers.

The development marks an important milestone in expanding access to digital payments across Barbados, bringing the convenience and efficiency of instant payments to customers of every participating institution.

AffinityPlus follows Scotiabank Barbados, which made the Wallet available to its customers on October 5.

Dr. The Most Honourable Kevin Greenidge, F.B., Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, welcomed the development as an important step in advancing the country’s digital payments infrastructure.

“Having all six commercial banks and three credit unions on BiMPay and offering the Wallet is an important achievement for Barbados. It means that customers of every participating institution can benefit from the convenience and efficiency of instant payments. As adoption continues to grow, we look forward to seeing more individuals and businesses embrace the opportunities that BiMPay offers,” he said.

The BiMPay Wallet is linked to the customer’s own account at their bank or credit union. It allows Barbadians to send and receive payments between participating financial institutions within seconds, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including public holidays.

The Wallet also makes everyday transactions simpler: users can pay using a mobile number or other registered alias, pay by scanning a QR code, and send or respond to requests to pay.

Before a payment is authorised, the Wallet displays the name of the person or business being paid, so users can confirm they are paying the right person. Sending and receiving payments through BiMPay is free of charge for individuals.

To get started, AffinityPlus members should download the BiMPay app and follow the credit union’s instructions to link their account.

The Central Bank of Barbados continues to work with participating financial institutions and other stakeholders to support the adoption and expansion of BiMPay, as the country advances towards a more connected, efficient and inclusive digital payments environment.
