National Payments Council

The National Payments Council (NPC) acts as an advisory body to the Bank, that focuses on the development of the national payment system. It is comprised of 10 members appointed by the Minister and is responsible for:

  • Facilitating consultation between all stakeholders in the payment system.
  • Promoting joint initiatives for improving the payment system infrastructure
  • Promoting co-operation between national and international bodies on payment system issues.
  • Promoting standardisation of procedures and systems
  • Reporting on activities of payment systems and make relevant recommendations
  • Securing financial inclusion and protection of payment services consumers
