Career Opportunity: Payment Oversight Officer, Bank Supervision Department

The Central Bank of Barbados is seeking to fill a post of Payment Oversight Officer in the Payments Oversight Unit, Bank Supervision Department.

Job Summary

To monitor the safety and efficiency of the National Payments System and the payment and settlement systems of financial institutions to ensure adherence to payments and settlements regulation, fair access and competition and prudential and other statutory requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the analysis and examination of the design and operation of systems and products
  • Contributing to the efficient functioning of payment systems
  • Ensuring the application of internationally accepted principles and standards by payment system participants
  • Identifying and advising of risks in the payment system and providing recommendations for corrective action
  • Assisting with the assessment of internal controls and operational risks in payment system stakeholders 
  • Conducting research and contributing to the collection of data and information to determine trends, issues, risks and payment system developments
  • Contributing to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • An honours degree in business management, accounting, economics or banking 

OR

A professional qualification in banking, compliance, ACAMS, accounting or a related discipline and at least two years' experience in a financial or regulatory environment.

  • Formal training in risk and project management
  • Formal training in supervisory management.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, word-processing applications, and database management

Other Requirements

Must have aptitude for detail and accuracy.

  • The ability to function both independently and as part of a team

Compensation

Salary and benefits, including group life insurance, group medical insurance and pension, will be in accordance with the Bank’s policy.
