The Central Bank of Barbados is partnering with The Salvation Army Barbados to support its 2026 Christmas Kettle Appeal, expanding the ways in which Barbadians can contribute to the organisation’s vital community outreach programmes.
Through the partnership, members of the public will be able to donate using BiMPay, Barbados’ national instant payment system, by scanning the QR codes displayed on Salvation Army signboards at more than 40 locations across the island and on The Salvation Army’s appeal letters sent by post. The QR codes provide an alternative to cash donations.
The initiative offers an additional, convenient way to support the appeal, which helps fund The Salvation Army’s feeding programme, its Meals-on-Wheels service and the distribution of food hampers to vulnerable individuals and families.
To give, donors scan the QR code with the BiMPay Wallet, enter the amount and confirm. Before the donation is authorised, the Wallet displays the name of the recipient, so donors can check that they are giving to The Salvation Army. Sending a donation through BiMPay is free of charge for individuals.
Dr. The Most Honourable Kevin Greenidge, F.B., Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, said the partnership shows how digital payments can support meaningful community initiatives.
“BiMPay is about making payments easier, faster and more convenient for Barbadians. Through this partnership with The Salvation Army, we are showing that those benefits go beyond making purchases or sending money to family and friends. Digital payments can also make charitable giving more accessible, allowing people to contribute to causes that make a real difference in the lives of others.”
The Salvation Army has served Barbados since 1898 and has a long record of assisting individuals and families in need. Its annual Christmas Kettle Appeal is an important source of funding for its charitable work, particularly at Christmas, when the need for assistance often increases.
As part of the partnership, the Central Bank of Barbados is contributing $20,000 to the 2026 Christmas Kettle Appeal, in support of The Salvation Army’s continued work in poverty alleviation and community welfare.
Dr. Greenidge encouraged Barbadians to support the appeal and to consider giving through BiMPay.
“Every contribution can make a difference. Whether large or small, a donation can help provide a meal, support a family or bring comfort to someone facing difficult circumstances. We encourage Barbadians to support The Salvation Army’s efforts this Christmas and to consider BiMPay as a convenient way to give.”
The partnership reflects the Central Bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to the welfare of Barbadians, while promoting awareness and use of the national instant payment system.
BiMPay is Barbados’ national instant payment system, designed to make electronic payments faster, easier and more convenient. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including public holidays, it allows customers of participating financial institutions to send and receive money within seconds, using mobile numbers or other registered aliases, and QR codes.
