Village shops, minimarts, and other small and micro businesses across Barbados are being encouraged to download and activate BiMPay as the Central Bank of Barbados prepares to take its Onboard and Win with BiMPay Roadshow into communities across the island.
Beginning on Wednesday, November 4, the initiative will take the Central Bank's outreach team directly to communities, engaging small business owners and assisting them with registering BiMPay, Barbados' national instant payment system.
The roadshow is part of the Bank's ongoing efforts to increase awareness and adoption of BiMPay, which enables Barbadians to send and receive payments quickly and securely, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It is also the Bank’s way of celebrating Barbados' 60th anniversary of Independence and fifth anniversary as a republic.
Participating businesses that meet the competition's eligibility requirements will have the opportunity to win one of five interim cash prizes of BDS$500, as well as a grand prize of BDS$6,000.
Novaline Brewster, Director of Communications, Information, and Outreach, said the roadshow represents an important opportunity to connect with small businesses and demonstrate how BiMPay can support their day-to-day operations.
"Small businesses are an important part of our communities and play a vital role in the local economy. We want to ensure that these businesses understand how BiMPay works and, more importantly, how they can benefit from using it, whether it is making it easier to receive payments, reducing the need to handle cash or offering customers another convenient way to pay.
"Through this roadshow, we are taking the conversation directly to business owners, answering their questions and encouraging them to get on board. We also want Barbadians to become familiar with the system and recognise the role they can play in supporting its adoption by the businesses they patronise," she said.
The roadshow will also receive additional visibility through a specially branded vehicle which will accompany the outreach team during its community visits and promote BiMPay as it makes its regular daily trips around the island.
The Central Bank is encouraging small business owners to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about BiMPay and complete the onboarding process. Members of the public are also invited to look out for the roadshow in their communities and encourage their favourite small businesses to get on board.
