The Central Bank of Barbados will host the 50th Sir Winston Scott Memorial Lecture on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Frank Collymore Hall, when the featured speaker will be Dr. Agnes Kalibata, a renowned agricultural scientist and global advocate for sustainable food systems.
Her presentation, titled “Feeding Tomorrow: Innovation Meets Climate Reality,” will explore how modernisation can support food security and resilience amid the growing challenges of climate change.
Dr. Kalibata is the past President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and previously held the post of Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources in Rwanda. She also served as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the 2021 Food Systems Summit, helping to shape international efforts to make food systems more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.
The Sir Winston Scott Memorial Lecture, the island’s longest-running public lecture series, honours Barbados’ first native Governor-General and continues to attract leading thinkers from around the world. These include economist Professor Esther Duflo; the late Dr. Carissa Etienne, Director of the Pan American Health Organization, and artificial intelligence expert Dr. Luis Videgaray.
