FCLE Committee Pays Tribute to The Late Patrick Michael Foster

The Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Committee extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of the late Patrick Michael Foster, who was a finalist in the 27th Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Competition with his manuscript “It is Written.”

In a tribute issued on behalf of the Committee, chair Dr. Yvonne Weekes, said his entry “was but one expression of his highly imaginative, Caribbean-magic infused oeuvre.”

“Along with fiction and short stories, Patrick explored and exhibited the mythical, beautiful, and mischievous aspects of his beloved Caribbean through his paintings, drawings, and theatre arts,” she said.

A consummate Caribbean theatre man, Patrick was an award-winning, playwright, director, actor, tutor, singer, and designer. Born in British Guiana to a Barbadian father and Guyanese mother, his undying love for the natural world and the region brought him to Barbados as a young man. Here, he carved a path in the media, advertising, and artistic world that spanned decades with an ever-present twinkle in his eye and song in his smile.

“A charismatic, passionate, disciplined, and giving artist, he will be remembered by the very many he mentored and performed with. His light and life are reflected in his writings and visual art and while we mourn his passing, we celebrate his life and legacy,” Dr. Weekes stated.
