The Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Awards were presented at a ceremony held on the 107th Anniversary of Frank Collymore’s birthday on January 7, 2000. Award winners were: Dana Gilkes, first place, for her collection of poems Anatomy Of A Scream. Second place went to Anthony Kellman for his collection of poems Wings Of A Stranger while Margaret Prescod-Cisse’s A House Without Windows and Winston Farrell’s Dustin’ The Blues came third. Honourable mention was also given to Trevor Yearwood for his collection of short stories The Patchwork Boat. Dr Marion Williams, Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados presented the Awards.

Novelist, poet and journalist Kevyn Arthur delivered the feature address where he gave a brief history of Barbadian literature up to the early 1940s.

The Endowment was established by the Central Bank of Barbados in 1998 to promote writing in Barbados and to improve access to publication. Ms Margaret Gill won the first competition in 1999 with her collection of poems, Alternate Songs From The Kingdom Of The Lily.
