The Central Bank of Barbados continues to encourage Barbadians to purchase numismatic coins.
Director of Banking and Currency at the Central Bank of Barbados, Mr. Victor Springer, was at the time commenting on the sale of numismatic coins launched last year to commemorate two historic events: the 375th Anniversary of the City of Bridgetown and the 350th Anniversary of the Bridgetown Synagogue.
“I am generally pleased with the sale of the two commemorative coins; however, I wish to advise Barbadians that we still have a limited number of the silver coins, which were minted in commemoration of the 375th Anniversary of Bridgetown, and fifteen (15) of the gold coins that were produced to mark the 350th Anniversary of the Bridgetown Synagogue,” Mr. Springer observed.
The gold coins will be sold on a first come, first served basis, as there are so few remaining.
Mr. Springer further stated that he would like to encourage Barbadians, especially collectors, to purchase these specialty coins. “Not only are they priceless souvenirs, but they are also worthwhile investments, which will appreciate over time,” the Director commented.
The $5 Proof Silver coin to commemorate the 375th Anniversary of the City of Bridgetown, which is made of .925 sterling silver and weighs 28.28 grams, is available at BDS$120.00.
The 22 carat gold coin to celebrate the 350th Anniversary of the City of the Bridgetown Synagogue is priced at BDS$1,000.00. Both coins are available at the Central Bank of Barbados.
The Bank, with a numismatic coin programme dating back to 1973, is recognised for issuing coins of a superior quality to commemorate important national historic events.
