About the Seminar
Since 1981, the Central Bank of Barbados’ Annual Review Seminar has provided a forum for stimulating policy-related discussions among economists, academics and other policymakers from within the economic and financial disciplines, as well as practitioners from other areas of expertise.
This year, it is our pleasure to invite you to our 42nd Annual Review Seminar, which will be held online with a limited number of in-person guests accommodated at the Courtney Blackman Grande Salle from July 26 to 29, 2022.
Seminar Theme
As the global pandemic continues to evolve, the world shows little to no signs of returning to pre-pandemic normalcy. Members of the English-speaking Caribbean are particularly vulnerable to external economic and climatic shocks as well as issues such as the current pandemic disruptions, including COVID-19 protocols changing rapidly across countries, sudden closure of boarders, and disruptions to commercial travel creating uncertainty in the tourism sector. Consequently, emphasis has been placed on adjusting to the current economic climate, as the world anticipates the post-COVID recovery. COVID-19 protocols are gradually being relaxed globally, which calls for an adaptation to a new way of life that incorporates both face-to-face and virtual interactions. This dynamic requires small open economies to respond quickly in order to achieve sustainable growth while maintaining acceptable fiscal balances and stabilising debt levels.
This year’s theme, “Adapting to the New Normal: Avenues for Economic Growth and Sustainable Development in the Caribbean”, seeks to explore these issues from a Caribbean perspective, promoting research aimed at fostering transformative growth.
