The Central Bank of Barbados has confirmed that one of its staff members was robbed at gunpoint and his car stolen on May 3. The incident occurred as the officer was leaving work around 7:00 p.m.
“We are distressed that an incident like this took place, but we are immensely relieved that he was not seriously injured,” said Novaline Brewster, Chief of Corporate Communications at the Bank.
Brewster disclosed that the Governor and other senior management have spoken with the staff member and his family, and that he and the wider staff have been offered counselling. She also indicated that the Bank is assisting the Barbados Police Service in their investigation into this matter.”
She further revealed that the Bank has instituted additional security measures with immediate effect and will be reviewing and enhancing security in and around its compound. “We are making every effort to ensure that our staff members feel and are safe as they go about the country’s business.”
