In Appreciation: Ms. Sadie Dixon; A Brilliant Mind, A Generous Heart

The passing of Ms. Sadie Dixon, Bank Secretary of the Central Bank of Barbados, has left an irreplaceable void in Barbados' financial and legal sectors, and in the hearts of all who knew her. Sadie was more than an accomplished legal professional—she was a woman of profound humility, boundless compassion, and unwavering integrity.

Sadie joined the Central Bank of Barbados in 2006 as a legal officer and, through dedication and exceptional skill, rose to the position of Bank Secretary, a post she held until 2025. An Attorney-at-Law with over 30 years' call to the Bars of Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, she held a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of the West Indies, a Certificate in Legal Education from Hugh Wooding Law School, and a Masters of Law with Distinction from the University of Warwick. She also earned a certificate in Legislative Drafting from the University of London's Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.

As an exceptional legislative drafter, Sadie's expertise helped shape and strengthen the laws governing Barbados' financial system, including the Financial Institutions Act, the National Payment System Act, and the Central Bank of Barbados Act. Her ability to dissect complex information and ask the right questions was legendary among colleagues. She served with distinction on the Financial Stability Board's Cross Border Payments and Identifiers Working Group and co-authored an important working paper on "De-risking in the Caribbean: The Unintended Consequences of International Financial Reform," demonstrating her commitment to addressing critical challenges facing the region.

Yet for all her professional brilliance, Sadie will be remembered most for her humanity. She was generous with praise when colleagues excelled and lovingly honest when offering counsel. She mentored with patience and care, and was generous with any information and teachings to help her colleagues expand their knowledge or excel in their professions. Even with her own demanding workload, she would check on colleagues, encouraging them to take breaks and find balance—a principle she embodied in her own life.

Sadie's devotion extended beyond her professional family. She cherished her father,  the Very Reverend William Dixon, her siblings Sherry Ann and Adrian, and her beloved nieces Zara and Sol, whose achievements she celebrated with pure joy. She treasured lifelong friendships from Erdiston Primary School and Harrison College, maintaining those bonds with characteristic warmth and loyalty up until her passing.

As Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Barbados, Sadie served her faith community with the same grace she brought to all endeavours. She loved life fully—celebrating family milestones, cheering at her nieces' sporting events, and dancing when Edwin Yearwood's kaiso moved her spirit.

The Board, Management and staff of the Central Bank of Barbados extend deepest condolences to her father, siblings, nieces, and extended family. Sadie's legacy of kindness, excellence, and compassion will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

May she rest in eternal peace.
