New IMF Mission Chief on Familiarisation Visit to Barbados

New IMF Mission Chief on Familiarisation Visit to Barbados

The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) new Mission Chief to Barbados, Marcello Estevao, will head a three-man delegation on a familiarisation visit to the island during the week of February 22, 2010.

During this visit, Estevao will meet with senior officials in Government, the Central Bank of Barbados, the private sector and the trade union movement, including Senator Darcy Boyce, Minister of State (Ministry of Finance, Investment, Telecommunications and Energy) and Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, Dr. DeLisle Worrell.

This is Estevao’s first visit to Barbados as Mission Chief and he explained that he will use this familiarisation tour to discuss the current economic situation with various government agencies and private sector organisations, as well as to set the agenda for the usual two-week annual Article IV consultation, scheduled for later this year.

Mr. Estevao described next week’s visit as quite routine.  Gamal El-Masry, Senior Economist in the Western Hemisphere Department will accompany Estevao. Pierre St-Amant, Senior Advisor to the Executive Director for Barbados will accompany the staff team.
