Regional Central Bankers Meet in Barbados for 7TH Intra Regional Games
The Central Bank of Barbados today announced that it will be hosting the 7th Intra Regional Central Bank Games this Easter weekend.
Approximately 250 central bankers from across the region will join their counterparts in Barbados for the sporting events scheduled for the Lester Vaughn Secondary School on Friday and Saturday, and the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium on Sunday, culminating with an awards ceremony and cultural show at the Frank Collymore Hall on Sunday evening.
Governor, Dr. Marion Williams noted that seven Central Banks in the Caribbean will be represented at the meet. They are Central Bank of Barbados, the Bank of Jamaica, the Bank of Guyana, Central Bank of Belize, Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the Central Bank of Bahamas. They will compete in nine sports, including cricket, tabletennis, football, volleyball, basketball, netball, chess, darts and dominoes.
“We at the Central Bank of Barbados are delighted to host our counterparts from across the region at these games that provide an opportunity for them to compete in a friendly atmosphere. These games are usually eagerly anticipated and attract large numbers of athletes and their supporters from the various Central Banks in the region. The teams and their fans are equally excited about the games this year. I, too, am looking forward to the competition,” Dr. Williams commented.
The Intra Regional Games were inaugurated in the 1970s. After a hiatus, they resumed in 1997 as part of the Central Bank of Barbados’ 25th Anniversary Celebrations. Barbados, which hosted the games then, has never won the championships.
