TRIBUTE TO SIR JOHN STANLEY GODDARD
The Central Bank of Barbados is saddened by the passing of Sir John Stanley Goddard, a pillar of the private sector. Sir John was first and foremost committed to the betterment of Barbados. His leadership of the private sector demonstrated that deep love of this country and a desire to see it prosper. He was consistently vigilant and perceptive and was willing to take on onerous and sometimes unpopular positions in the interest of a better Barbados. He did so with distinction.
In a crisis he could rise to the occasion as he did in 1991-92 when in response to the dire state of the economy being revealed at a public seminar sponsored by the Barbados Economics Society, he immediately galvanised the executive of the private sector into action, and joined with the Unions and Government to form what has become a lasting social compact. This search for mutual agreement and understanding and a willingness to make tough decisions in the interest of the country characterised the distinction of his contribution to Barbados.
The Central Bank joins with his family and with the rest of Barbados in mourning his loss. May he rest in peace.
