The study examines the determinants of consumer expenditure on durables in Barbados and evaluates the effectiveness of two major policy instruments - credit and hire-purchase regulations. The analysis and results suggests that monetary policy as well as fiscal policy have a strong role to play in determining expenditure on durables.
