The Central Bank of Barbados has announced that additional BiMPay support channels will be available from Monday, June 22. Deputy Governor Michelle Doyle gave this assurance on Thursday during an online BiMPay Support Clinic that provided Barbadians with an opportunity to ask questions, receive guidance, and learn more about Barbados' new national instant payment system.
In a session attended by more than 550 people, Doyle, who is also executive sponsor of the instant payment system (BiMPay) project, along with Colin Arthur, Deputy Director, Instant Payment Services Unit, and Ross Simmons, Deputy Director, Payments IT Support Services Unit addressed queries on a variety of issues related to the new instant payment system, providing clarification on both the BiMPay rail and e-wallet.
Key topics discussed included the benefits of adopting digital payments, data privacy and security, managing multiple accounts, linking and unlinking accounts within the e-wallet, and future developments for the system. Officials also addressed teething issues experienced by users, including password reset difficulties and account login challenges.
Representatives from some financial institutions also participated in the session, offering one-on-one guidance to their customers who requested it.
To conclude the session, attendees witnessed a live demonstration of the app’s features. The demonstration showed users how to send and receive money, switch between accounts, and understand the security measures in place to protect sensitive information. They were also encouraged to visit the Bank’s website or YouTube channel to watch a full BiMPay e-wallet tutorial, which includes a walkthrough of both the onboarding process and the app’s key features.
Participants remained engaged throughout the two-hour session, with one attendee describing the clinic as "helpful and informative," and others saying that the e-wallet demo helped them to understand its many features.
