Final 2021 Caribbean Economic Forum to Focus on Economic Growth and Development

The curtain will come down on the Central Bank of Barbados’ 2021 Caribbean Economic Forum series on Thursday, December 2 at 8:00 p.m. Barbados (7:00 p.m. Jamaica) with a discussion on “Promoting Regional Economic Growth and Development.”

“Throughout the year, we’ve looked at different pieces of the puzzle, be it the importance of institutions or the role of the private sector. For the final edition, we will focus on the ultimate goal: stronger economies, resilient development and closer societies in the region,” said Central Bank Governor Cleviston Haynes. “To do this, we’ve assembled a panel that will examine the lessons learnt from past experiences and how we can apply them to our current situation in a way that engenders sustainability.”

That panel comprises Dr. Hyginus “Gene” Leon, President of the Caribbean Development Bank; Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary-General of the CARICOM Secretariat; and Dr. Nigel Clarke, Minister of Finance and the Public Service in Jamaica and Brian Louisy, President of the Caribbean Industry and Commerce.

“We consider this discussion to be especially important given the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the work, effort and reform now needed to restore the economic health of the region and safeguard the livelihoods of our people, so we encourage everyone to not only tune in, but to pose their questions for the panel.”

"Promoting Regional Growth and Development” will be the fifth instalment of the 2021 Caribbean Economic Forum. Previous editions included “Resilient Institutions and Why They Matter to Me”, “Putting People at the Centre of Development in the Caribbean”, “Transitioning the Private Sector”, and "From Inequality and Vulnerability to Prosperity for All".
