Since 1981, the Central Bank of Barbados’ Annual Review Seminar has served as a vital forum for researchers, policymakers, and academics to engage in insightful discussions and explore policy-driven solutions to pressing regional and global economic and financial challenges. This year’s seminar recognises that global uncertainty must not be viewed as temporary, but as structural, and therefore aims to move beyond diagnosing risks, focusing instead on how small states are responding, adapting, and positioning themselves in an evolving global landscape.
This year, it is our pleasure to invite you to our 46th Annual Review Seminar to be held in Bridgetown, Barbados from August 10 to 14, 2026.
The global economic environment continues to evolve in ways that are reshaping the operating conditions of small open economies. Shifts in international trade patterns, commodity-price shocks, tighter global financial conditions, rapid technological transformation and obsolescence, escalating climate risks, and demographic change are altering the foundations and efficiency of macroeconomic policy. For Caribbean economies, the execution of strategic responses carries important implications for growth prospects, fiscal sustainability, financial sector soundness, monetary policy effectiveness, and long-term economic development strategies.
Against this backdrop, the 46th Annual Review Seminar will provide a forum for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to examine the theme “Shifting Economic Landscapes: Strategic Responses of Small Open Economies”. The seminar aims to deepen understanding of evolving domestic and global economic conditions by fostering rigorous, expert-led policy dialogue on strategies to promote sustainable growth and macroeconomic resilience.
