In 2007, the international cricketing fraternity will converge on the West Indies to compete for the most esteemed title within the cricket world and to participate in the second largest global sporting event, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup (CWC). The institution of cricket is an essential part of the tapestry of Caribbean life and, in many respects, the truest manifestation of Caribbean integration. Not surprisingly, many Caribbean countries, already facing very high public debt levels and weak growth, are engaged in substantial preparations for hosting the CWC games in anticipation of reaping significant legacy effects from this mega sporting event.
