Adrian Carter is the first recipient of the inaugural De La Rue Scholarship.

Carter was among three applicants considered by the committee consisting Harold Codrington, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Barbados and Chairman; Ms. Celeste Wood, Adviser to the Governor; and Dr. Winston Moore, Senior Lecturer, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

The Committee explained that it decided to award the scholarship to Carter on the basis of the strength of his qualifications, stated goals and objectives as well as potential ability to represent the De La Rue Scholarship as a Student Ambassador.

Carter, the first recipient of the Central Bank of Barbados Scholarship in 1997, works as a Market Analyst at the Barbados Light & Power Company. He’s currently a post graduate Economics student at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. His present research interest is on the unique issues that characterize the regulation of small island electric markets within the Caribbean and the identification of innovations to improve the market’s efficiency.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Central Bank of Barbados for awarding me the De La Rue Scholarship. The Bank has already contributed considerably to my personal and professional development having been a former employee of the institution and the recipient of the first Central Bank Scholarship. I hope to continue to seek out avenues to deliver returns to our nation that are at least commensurate with the investments that the Bank has made towards my development,” Carter commented.

De La Rue, manufacturer of our currency and the Bank are offering the BDS$35,000 scholarship biennially.

The Scholarship is open to nationals of Barbados who are pursuing a full-time postgraduate MSc. Programme or who are in the final year of an MPhil/PhD programme in Economics or Finance at UWI, Cave Hill Campus.
