The Central Bank of Barbados will hold a 5K Fun Run and Walk in support of the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association on Sunday, May 7 at 4:00 p.m. starting and ending in Church Village Green, Bridgetown. The event is part of the organisation’s 45th anniversary celebrations.

“We wanted to have an activity that would give us a chance to give back,” said Arlene Estwick, chairperson of the Bank’s 45th anniversary organising committee. “Doing this not only allows us to support a very worthwhile cause, it also gets the public involved.”

Estwick revealed that the response to the initiative has been positive. “People are excited about it. Registration has exceeded our expectations, but we are ready to accommodate the additional runners and walkers. The increased numbers mean that we can make a more significant contribution to the Association.”

Pamelia Brereton, president of the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association, praised the Central Bank for including the event in its celebrations. “The Bank has been a very good partner to us. They recognise that Alzheimer’s is becoming an epidemic worldwide and that we in Barbados have to do everything we can to support not only those with the disease, but also their families, friends and caregivers.”

The Central Bank of Barbados previously partnered with the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association in 2012 for the Bank’s one cent drive. On that occasion, the Bank raised more than $100,000 for the charity.

The CBB 5K Fun Run and Walk is the second major anniversary activity for the Central Bank. Earlier this week, the Bank hosted a highly successful Open Day where it invited Barbadians to tour the building and to chat with staff from the organisation’s different departments.
